Marin City Library Presents Shakespeare on Film: Othello

Come participate in a discussion on the portrayals of Othello & Iago in four filmed versions of one scene from the play. The featured scene shows Othello falling victim to the malignant machinations of Iago. Othello is portrayed by Laurence Fishburne, Anthony Hopkins, Sir Laurence Olivier and Placido Domingo. Iago is portrayed by Kenneth Branagh, Bob Hoskins, Frank Finlay and Justino Diaz. The discussion will be led by local actor Phil Sheridan. Poetry In Motion Course for Middle Schoolers

Poetry in Motion, a 6-week poetry writing course at the Fairfax Library for middle school students, will begin Thursday, February 26, and will continue through April 1. Sessions are 4-5 pm each Thursday, and will be taught by Terri Glass. Pre-registration is required. Call 457-5629.

Marin City Library Book Discussion Group

The Marin City Library has started a new book discussion group, meeting the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm. It's free, of course, and drop-ins who have read the book are encouraged to attend.

Tuesday, March 16, at 7:00 pm, we'll be discussing The Angle of Repose, by Wallace Stegner.

Gillian Roberts hosts the Women of Mystery at the Novato Library

February is the time to sign up for the March "Women of Mystery" discussion group at the Novato Library! The program, on loan from the California Center for the Book, is a screening-reading-and-discussion program that will take place over four consecutive Tuesday evenings in March at 7 p.m., March 9 through 30. Marin County author Gillian Roberts will host the entire discussion series, with guest visits from her "Sisters in Crime," Cara Black, Camille Minichino, and Mindy Hall. The writers will lead discussion groups about the works of Sue Grafton, Sara Paretsky, and Marcia Muller.
Schedule of events:
March 9: screening of the film "Women of Mystery: Three Writers Who Forever Changed Detective Fiction" with Cara Black and Gillian Roberts.
March 16: Discussion of "Tunnel Vision" by Sara Paretsky with Camille Minichino.
March 23: Discussion of "F is for Fugitive" by Sue Grafton with Mindy Hall.
March 30: Discussion of "The Shape of Dread" by Marcia Muller with Gillian Roberts.

Special note: in order to vote in the March 2nd Presidential Primary Election, your registration form must be postmarked (or handed in at County Elections Offices) by February 17th.
