And how does your garden grow?

Annie Spiegelman,aka the "dirtDiva", Pacific Sun garden columnist, Master Gardener and author of Growing Seasons will talk about writing, gardening and more at the Novato Library on Tuesday, November 14th from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Signed copies of Growing Seasons will be available with 100% of book sales donated to the Friends of the Novato Libraries. Learn How to Research Your Family History


The Anne T. Kent California Room is offering an introductory class on genealogy on November 14, from 6-7 p.m. The class will provide an overview on how to research your family history and fill out pedigree charts and family group records, and also cover sources for genealogical information and resources housed in the California Room. A packet of information to get you started is included.

Civic Center Library Book Club Announces New Selection!

The End has Begun

The Corte Madera Library Lemony Snicket contest has come to an End. 16 kids (out of 91 participants) managed to correctly identify a portrait of Lemony Snicket in his school boy years. The winner, pictured here with his unlucky siblings, was rewarded with a copy of The End. The 15 less fortunate contestants will be given mere commemorative buttons. Winner of Lemony Snicket Contest

Coping with stress

Feeling stressed? Learn the benefits of Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction, a program developed from the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn, by attending a free lecture by Meredith Cleaves on Wednesday, October 25th at the Fairfax Library. Ms. Cleaves trained at the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and is a former student of the San Francisco Zen Center. She will show you how to use the wisdom of your body and mind to face stress, pain and illness. This special event begins at 7:30pm and will close with two brief meditations. Comic book workshop at Fairfax Library!

On Oct. 17, the Fairfax Library will present a free workshop for teens ages 12 and up on how to create a comic book. Author and artist Oliver Chin, whose works include “9 of 1: A Window to the World” and “The Year of the Dog”, will show participants how they can tranform their own story ideas into a comic book. We will provide free supplies, snacks and a comic book by Oliver to every teen who attends this exciting event! This 2 hour program starts at 6:30pm and does not require registration.
