Holiday Crafts Program

Gabriella Drake of Art Abloom presents a hands-on workshop, “Print-making for the Holidays”, for children ages 6 to 11 on Saturday, December 9th at the Fairfax Library from 2:30-3:45 pm. Participants will design their own holiday card and wrapping paper. Space is limited and pre-registration required. Please sign up at the Fairfax Reference desk or call 457-5629. Writing from the Soul Workshop

Come to the Fairfax Library on Tuesday, December 5th for a free workshop that explores writing for creative expression and growth. Susanne West, M.A., Chair of the JFK University Liberal Arts Department, will lead this popular workshop in the Fairfax Library meeting room from 6:30- 8:45 pm. No prior experience is necessary. Participants are asked to bring a notebook and pen. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Recommended Reading and Viewing from the Civic Center Library


The Civic Center Library has compiled two new lists of recommended materials!

New Books on Sports features recently acquired titles on football (300 Pounds of Attitude), baseball (Love Me, Hate Me: Barry Bonds and the Making of an Antihero), soccer (Soccerhead), and more.

Silent Movies highlights classic films from the early years of cinema. Most of the films date from the 1920s and include Charlie Chaplin’s City Lights, Fritz Lang’s Metropolis, and Carl Dreyer’s The Passion of Joan of Arc.

LOCAL AUTHOR TALKS ABOUT MARIN HISTORY


On Tuesday, December 5, at 7 p.m., local author and historian Barry Spitz will talk about his new book, Marin: A History at the Corte Madera Library. The book is a heavily illustrated, comprehensive history of Marin County from the earliest beginnings to the present. Signed copies will be available for purchase--or check out one of several copies from the Library!

The library has help! Homework Help, that is-- free online tutors who can provide the assistance you need.

2. Look for this icon:

3. Enter your subject (English, math, social studies or science).

4. Enter your grade (4th through 12th).

5. And soon you will be chatting with a tutor!

The service is available from 1pm to 10 pm daily. To use the service, you must log on from a PC running Internet Explorer. PCs are available at our libraries, too.

Come to the Concert!

On Wednesday, November 15th at 7:30 pm, Joseph Bacon will perform a selection of Italian guitar music from the 16th-20th centuries in a free concert at the Fairfax Library. An accomplished musician, Mr. Bacon has studied with Andres Segovia, Ida Presti, Alexander Lagoya and Julian Bream; he has also done an extended study of Indian music with Ustad Ali Akbar Kahn. Mr. Bacon has performed for appreciative audiences in many cities including London, New York and Italy. Join us at the Fairfax Library for this wonderful opportunity to hear an extraordinary talent! Master Gardeners at the Corte Madera Library

Marin Master Gardener Susan Maggiora will be at the Corte Madera Library on Thursday, November 9th, at 7:00 p.m. to present a program on Bulbs. Come find out how to add bulbs to your garden.

Then, on Tuesday, November 14th, at 7:00 p.m. come hear Master Gardener Lila Sirk discuss Habitats: Small and Large.
