Kay Ryan named Poet Laureate

Congratulations are in order for Fairfax's own Kay Ryan, recently named Poet Laureate of the United States. Find out more about her poetry at Poets.org You can find several collections of her poetry in the library catalog. If you'd like to experience poetry live, the Marin Poetry Center's Summer Traveling Show will be at the Corte Madera Library on Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at 7:30 p.m.

Henna Event at Fairfax Library

Henna artist Rachel-Anne Palacios will present “Henna Art: A Workshop for Teens” at the Fairfax Library on Thursday, July 31st from 4-5:30 pm. Rachel-Anne will give a short talk on the tradition of henna art & then demonstrate techniques. Teens will have the opportunity to practice working with henna & will receive a henna design by Rachel-Anne herself. Participants will also receive a henna kit to take home. Henna art usually lasts 7-10 days. Space is limited and parental permission is required. Teens can pick up a permission slip at the Fairfax library. Henna Party for Teens

henna designs on hands Come to the Corte Madera Library on Monday, July 28th, from 3:30-5 p.m. for a Henna Party! Learn about the art of henna and get a design just for you. Sign up by calling the Reference Desk at (415) 924-6444. Parental permission required.

Greek Shadow Puppet Theater

Bring your friends and family to Point Reyes library on Tuesday, July 15th from 2-3pm or to the Stinson Beach Library on the same date from 7-8pm to see a spellbinding Greek shadow play by Leonidas Kassapides. Mr. Kassapides has performed shadow puppet theater in the U.S. and Europe since 1989 to wide acclaim. This special event is free.
